The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) represents 27,000 academic and general/professional staff in universities and other tertiary education providers throughout Australia. In Tasmania, the NTEU primarily represents staff at the University of Tasmania.

The NTEU Tasmanian Division has a vacancy for a part-time Division Organiser to be based in Hobart, with regular travel to regional worksites. This position is offered on a 0.8 basis (0.3 FTE ongoing, 0.5 FTE 2 years fixed term). Flexible working hours can be arranged between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The position will suit an individual experienced in organising, either within a trade union or other like community organisation.

The successful candidate will be assigned a mix of duties, including, as part of a small team, taking responsibility for the completion of assigned organising, campaign, and administrative tasks or projects.

The typical duties of this position include:

  • Undertaking recruitment of new members
  • Maintaining and servicing networks of workplace union representatives
  • Visiting members and potential members on a systematic and regular basis across all work areas of the University of Tasmania
  • Participating in campaign and organising activities, either locally, state-wide or nationally

The position will be filled at either NTEU Level 5 ($87,001 - $94,063 pro-rata) or NTEU Level 6 ($98,223 - $107,678 pro-rata) depending on skills and experience, plus 17% employer superannuation contributions. Terms and conditions for this position are covered by a national Collective Agreement which has terms comparable with NTEU members in the industry.
