The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) represents 30,000 academic and general/professional staff in universities and other tertiary education providers. The NTEU Tasmanian Division has a vacancy for a part-time Branch Organiser to be based in Hobart. This position is offered on a 0.6 basis (equating to three days per week). Flexible working hours can be arranged between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.

The typical duties of this position include:

• Visiting members and potential members on a systematic and regular basis across all southern work areas of the University of Tasmania
• Maintaining and servicing networks of union representatives
• Undertaking recruitment and campaign activities
• Providing initial assistance with basic member enquiries, grievances and disputes

The salary for this position is in the range $85,295 to $92,219 (plus 17% employer superannuation) pro-rata.

• High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to speak to a variety of people individually and in groups
• Demonstrated basic administrative skills including the use of word processing and email packages and the ability to learn new computer packages. Experience in the use of the InDesign package would be an advantage
• Experience in the production of leaflets and/or newsletters
• Ability to effectively organise own work and to work co-operatively with Elected Officers and other Union staff
• Knowledge of the role, function and operation of universities
• Previous experience with unions or community organisations would be an advantage
