ABOUT NATIONAL JUSTICE PROJECT

The National Justice Project is a not-for-profit legal service and civil rights organisation. We fight for justice, fairness and inclusivity by tackling systemic discrimination through the power of strategic legal action, education and advocacy. Together with our clients and community partners we work to create systemic change and we strive to amplify the voices of communities harmed by government inaction, harm and discrimination.

Our key areas of activity include health justice, specifically for persons with disability and First Nations communities; challenging misconduct in police, prisons and youth detention; and seeking justice for asylum seekers and refugees. We advocate for law reform, policy change, attitudinal change, improved services, community awareness and a justice system that is fair, just and equitable.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Communications and Digital Specialist is a central role in the National Justice Project team reporting to the Fundraising and Communications Manager. You will be responsible for managing the National Justice Project’s website, social media, campaigns and community engagement, as well as digital fundraising and general communications functions linked to public relations and media. You will be required to ensure consistent messaging across our content, help grow our community of supporters and the National Justice Project’s overall influence and impact.

You will be a highly motivated and proactive team player with outstanding communications, media, advocacy and digital community engagement skills. You will have a creative and resourceful spirit, and outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You will be comfortable juggling multiple projects and priorities whilst meeting targets with diligence and efficiency in a fast-paced workplace. You will have knowledge, if not experience, in trauma-informed and culturally safe practice. A genuine interest in social justice and First Nations sovereignty, and be a confident and strategic thinker, as well as having a proactive nature and capable of manage your own time to achieve key outcomes.

KEY CANDIDATE CONSIDERATIONS

  • You must be comfortable working with confronting subject matter and with communities that have experienced significant intergenerational trauma.
  • You will have at least 3 – 5 years experience and have completed tertiary level education, training or equivalent in one of the following fields: Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or Digital Communications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Developing and implementing an innovative and successful range of targeted digital communications, advocacy and engagement products and materials ranging from campaigns, emails, newsletters and online resources to mobilise and grow our National Justice Project community and achieve our audience and fundraising targets.
  • Developing and managing the National Justice Project website and other related project websites ensuring engaging, accurate and brand consistent content, SEO performance and strong conversation rates.
  • Developing and managing all social media and advocacy across various platforms. Ensuring all strategic and growth targets are achieved.
  • Developing and advocating for a data driven marketing approach across the National Justice Project, including designing, implementing and measuring digital supporter journeys to achieve an engaging online experience.
  • Developing and implementing all other key marketing and communications initiatives, content and activities, including but not limited to:
    • Public Relations – developing and delivering the Impact Report, newsletters, promotional material including videos, presentations and speeches, in addition, engaging with and managing media opportunity (including supporting the CEO) and developing and maintaining crisis communications tools and training.
    • Marketing - supporting all fundraising events, projects and programs promotion (from material to activities). Developing a data driven marketing approach to help design digital supporter journeys.
    • Brand - as the brand custodian ensure consistency and understanding of the brand identity in all forms of communication and with all audiences, including appropriate internal support material.
    • Internal communications - working with the CEO and Executive Team on an internal communications plan to ensure the values and behaviours of the National Justice Project are understood and operated to across the organisation.
    • With management support ensuring appropriate digital, communications, privacy and data security processes, policies and procedures are in place and understood with appropriate training.
    • Contributing to fundraising, projects, partnerships and advocacy initiatives as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Training, experience (3 - 5 years experience), skills and interests relevant to the role’s key responsibilities.
  • Commitment to human rights and social justice, in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability and refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Proven ability to create engaging and compelling digital communications, from social media, advocacy to digital fundraising campaigns, across a variety of platforms to achieve revenue and/or other targets.
  • High level editing and proof-reading skills, and ability to recognise and mitigate risk in a fast-paced communications setting.
  • Technical competency across social media platforms as well as Word Press and MailChimp essential. Technical competency with Humanitix, Salesforce and Funraisin desirable.
  • Understanding of culturally safe and trauma informed practice.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
  • Proactive initiative with minimal supervision and as a part of a team.
  • Open to continuous improvement and innovation, and able to see and action growth opportunities.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Experience working with vulnerable communities.
  • Experience working in a legal office, not-for-profit or community organisation.
