The National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) is an independent, non-profit, medical research organisation, recognised internationally as a centre of excellence in ageing research and knowledge translation. Located in the grounds of the Royal Park Campus of the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville, NARI is a vibrant and dynamic work environment where research is brought to life through rapid translation into policy and practice. NARI’s multi-disciplinary team of researchers are committed to improving the life and health of older people through research. Our values underpin the way we work and conduct our research. We value: Research excellence and a spirit of enquiry; Elimination of ageism; Integrity; Diversity; Collaboration.

In Australia, limited awareness of dementia in people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds often results in delayed diagnosis, poorer prognosis, and a higher burden of care on families and health systems.

Moving Pictures, an innovative multi-media project, aims to change this through the production of short films co-produced with people from CALD backgrounds. We are looking for a Vietnamese/Spanish Research Assistant to assist with recruitment of carers from Vietnamese/Spanish background and service providers for in-language video interviews, the translation and transcription of interview data and support of other study related activities.

The successful applicants will have:

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant field, demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English and either Spanish or Vietnamese
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely, collaboratively and productively with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience relevant to public health in a community context and capacity to work with community and health workers in a sensitive and respectful manner
