Host Families

My Place

Have you ever considered sharing your home with a person with a disability?

My Place is an organisation that works in partnership with each person with a disability to pursue the lifestyle of their choice and to have their individual needs met by people they choose and trust.

My Place is currently seeking families, couples or single people to open their home to an adult or a child on a full time or respite basis.

You don’t need to have previous experience supporting a person with disability, but you do need to be genuine in your desire to share your home and be prepared to work to make a positive difference by enriching someone else’s life, as well as your own.

This support promotes opportunities for people with disability to become a valued and contributing member of their community.

Host Families/Home-sharers/foster carers are not employees of My Place but are rather engaged as volunteers. This allows My Place to offer you a tax-free reimbursement to cover the expenses of sharing your home.

My Place will provide any training required for you to care for needs, and will provide you with ongoing support from one of our Coordinators.

You will need a WA police clearance that is less than twelve months old and be willing to undergo a robust assessment, plus additional screening and have a working with children’s card to become a foster carer.

To be considered for the role please address the following selection criteria (no more than one page):

  • How can you positively influence individuals in the areas of work, study, emotional growth, as well as social experience and connection
  • How can you work to build a trusting, mutual respectful relationship
  • How can you work with individuals to facilitate the exploration of practical solutions to everyday situations, problems and barriers they may encounter
  • In difficult situations, how do you use your experience and emotional maturity to act in a calm, considered and responsive way, supporting people to clarify and express their thoughts and feelings

Adhering to Government guidelines on social distancing during the Covid-19 outbreak, if your application is successful, we will contact you to arrange an initial phone or video conference interview.
