We are an independent, non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring sexual and reproductive health services are equally accessible to all people living in Australia. We are the only national accredited provider of abortion, contraception and vasectomy services, and the country’s longest running provider of teleabortion.

Our holistic, client-centred approach empowers individuals to control their reproductive health safely, and with dignity, regardless of their circumstances. Through active partnerships with healthcare providers, researchers and communities, our models of care ensure the total wellbeing of our clients is supported at every stage.

Your purpose

As the Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for developing and leading the strategic marketing communications and operational delivery of activity for Marie Stopes Australia as well as our pharmaceutical non-profit, MS Health.

You will work closely with key stakeholders across the organisation to support and advise them on communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement and management. You will be essential in defining and driving the brand to a range of stakeholders, tailoring messaging and developing marketing campaigns and activity. You will be key to further developing our brand proposition and to providing marketing direction across the organisation to support the key areas of work.

You will be a highly experienced marketer and communications professional, expert at delivering tailored messaging to a range of audiences and markets that ultimately increase awareness for the services we provide within sexual and reproductive health as well as our brand. You will be passionate about assisting us to break the stigma around sexual and reproductive health and design concepts on how to achieve this. You will understand the importance of excellent marketing communications and have innovative ideas for how the organisation’s presence and brand recognition can be further developed to support brand awareness, market penetration and engagement.

You will assist in the development and implementation of strategic communication and reputation management initiatives by supporting the alignment, recognition and articulation of our purpose and mission, as well as our commercial reality and strategic direction internally.

Your expert advice will support stakeholders, at all levels, to increase employee engagement and achieve strategic goals.

To apply for the role, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or appropriate postgraduate qualification(s) in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations or similar (essential).
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders, including Managing Director and Executive Teams (essential).
  • Significant experience of working across a busy, multi-disciplinary communications & marketing team (essential).
  • Comprehensive experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Word Press and/or Mail Chimp (essential).
  • A strong understanding of intersectionality, diversity and the impact of communication on staff, clients and communities (essential).
  • Experience of working with diverse communities and stakeholder groups across multiple regions and territories (desirable).
  • Knowledge and or previous experience in the sexual and reproductive health service delivery, not-for-profit or charity sector (desirable).

What you will be required to assist with:

  • Develop and deliver a marketing communications plan in support of our values and behaviours, ensuring that there is engagement from across the organisations and that they have the communication tools and support that they need.
  • Measure the effectiveness communications messaging and communication channels, with knowledge in design, SEO and social media advertising.
  • Proactively manage incident and crisis communications responses, in partnership with the Managing Director and other leaders.
  • Create high quality and timely content, utilising a variety of channels: our website, news events, publications and e-publications.
  • Drive a public speaking program to ensure our leaders and specialists are speaking regularly and they are supported to align with our strategic direction and brand.
  • Build and identify impactful client stories for use across media platforms, with considerations of internal stakeholder and client privacy considerations.
  • Build and produce key positions with internal stakeholders to amplify Marie Stopes Australia’s reputation and brand, including but not limited to the Managing Director, Medical Director, and the Deputy Medical Director.
  • Active use of our websites, EDM lists, Facebook, Vimeo/YouTube, LinkedIn and Twitter channels for proactive and reactive management of reputational issues.
  • Assist to support the organisation’s Partnering with Consumers program and ensure Consumer Advisors and key staff are trained and supported to deliver this work.
  • Support the organisation’s impact reporting to internal key partners.
  • Manage the brand to ensure consistent communication of the organisation’s mission and values across all channels and will ensure that the integrity of the brand is maintained and promoted at all times.
  • Provide a structure and framework in terms of branding and marketing from which we can develop marketing activity to support the organisation’s activities, including market research and advertising.
  • Lead the conceptual ideation and execution of advertising activity.
  • Build and deliver branded marketing campaigns mixing traditional and digital media, ensuring key messages are consistently delivered.
  • Measure, analyse and develop campaigns to ensure return on investment and demonstrate business impact.
  • Carry out market research on customers and analyse and forecast demands and trends.

You will also possess the following attributes:

  • Passionate about de-stigmatising abortion, sexual and reproductive health.
  • Track record of developing and delivering communications and marketing strategies across a complex organisation.
  • Well-respected reputation managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills in a communications context.
  • Proven experience across communications and marketing strategy planning and implementation (media, social media, stakeholder relations, traditional media).
  • Experience developing and delivering comprehensive media strategies.
  • Strong eye for developing meaningful content that tells a differentiated, data-driven story.
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and responsibly across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Highly developed verbal, written and oral skills to promote and represent the organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of web and print based marketing material.
  • Demonstrable experience of planning and executing targeted marketing and advertising campaigns across a range of both traditional and digital platforms.
  • Proven record of successfully developing and managing effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable ability to monitor and assess marketing and media strategy and activities success/failure against key business objectives.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess campaign effectiveness.
  • Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability in collaborating effectively across multi-disciplinary teams.
