The role

NWMPHN has partnered with the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services to lead place-based Suicide Prevention Initiatives (Macedon Ranges and Brimbank Melton) in the NWMPHN region. Each of the trials is supported by governance groups comprising a range of key local participants, with strong representation from community members and people with lived experience of suicide.

The Program Officer, Suicide Prevention will use strong engagement skills and project management capability to build on and drive the successful delivery of a locally developed action plan. The role will also work with the Manager and other teams at NWMPHN to ensure the broader suite of suicide prevention activities and commissioned services are informed by the learnings from this trial site activity and engagement.

A typical day for the Program Officer may involve:

  • Undertaking meaningful and multifaceted engagement with community stakeholders including consumers, carers, people with lived experience, services providers, and policymakers
  • Supporting the effective operations of network meetings and activities related to the trial including relevant preparation and post-meeting follow up
  • Leading the commissioning and procurement of activities originating from the suicide prevention action plan
  • Working with contracted service providers to ensure services delivered are evidence-based, client-centred and operated in accordance with program/service guidelines

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience with community development and complex project coordination
  • High-level project planning, change management, evaluation, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with consumer and carer groups including those with lived experience
  • An understanding of the Victorian mental health sector and current reform priorities at State and Commonwealth
  • Ability to communicate with influence, including the use of written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills
