The Opportunity

Moonee Valley City Council’s Strategic Planning Department is currently seeking a Senior Sustainability Officer to join a committed and passionate sustainability team. The Senior Sustainability Officer will be responsible for policy and projects that contribute towards creating a sustainable city and Council’s commitment to achieving zero net emissions both within our community and within Council.

Responsibilities

  • Apply ESD expertise to lead and contribute to operational policy, such as advice and written guidance on a sustainable built environment, public lighting, procurement and fleet policy
  • Provide expert ESD and climate adaptation input into strategic planning processes.
  • Lead the delivery and coordination of projects to reduce carbon emissions in the City of Moonee Valley, such as through accelerating the uptake of renewable energy in the business community and lighting upgrades.
  • Engage with a range of external stakeholders and partner organisations, including other Councils, local businesses, the development and energy sectors and community members.
  • Carry out research and analysis to stay abreast of best practice ESD, climate adaptation and emerging trends and opportunities, such as planning for alternative energy technologies.

About You

To be suitable for this position, you will possess:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Practical experience and a comprehensive understanding of ESD program design and delivery and provision of expert ESD advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse ESD principles, energy and carbon issues and develop policy responses.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, including project planning, budgeting, engaging and supervising consultants and contractors, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
