Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee Members (voluntary)

The Monash University Human Research Ethics Committee (MUHREC) is seeking additional members. The Committee reviews all research conducted by Monash University staff or students involving human participants. The primary role of committee is to protect the welfare and the rights of participants in research.

Membership of MUHREC is in accordance with the requirements of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.

Expression of interest for the following categories of membership are open:

Pastoral Care – someone who performs a pastoral care role in the community - for example an Aboriginal Elder or Minister of Religion;
Lay person - someone who has “no affiliation with the institution (Monash University) and does not currently engage in medical, scientific, legal or academic work”;
Appointments are for an initial period of twelve months with the possibility for renewal.

Time commitment

Members are expected to attend 8 meetings throughout the year and contribute to follow up review processes as well as attend training. Applicants must possess effective interpersonal skills, competent computer skills and be able to read large documents online within the required timeframe.
