About Mental Health Program at Monash Health

Monash Health Mental Health Services provides a range of community, bed-based and specialist services covering the Casey, Cardinia, Greater Dandenong, Kingston and Monash LGAs – a population of nearly one million. It has an operational budget of $130 million and employs approximately 820 EFT, representing over 1000 staff.

The Program has a number of clinical units including three adult units (Casey, Dandenong and Clayton), an Early in Life Mental Health Service (comprising infant, child and adolescent and youth services), Psychology and Specialist Services (PsySS), Drug and Alcohol service and Gender Dysphoria Clinic. Southern Synergy supports the Mental Health Programs with specialist research innovations. The program has Five PARCS (Prevention and Recover Care Services) which includes a specialist Women’s only PARCs, an Extended Care PARCs and Youth PARCs. The clinical service is supported by an aligned operational structure to enable the provision of high quality service through the creation of clinical-operational partnerships to support staff, patients, carers and their families, and a strong professional structure that supports the governance of health professional workforce.

About Casey Area Mental Health Service and the ICP Team

The Intensive Care Package Team is a new service being developed at Casey Area Mental Health Service providing the opportunity for the successful applicant to be involved in the development and shaping of a clinical team designed to provide targeted clinical support to clients experiencing ongoing mental health challenges within the Casey/Cardinia community. The team will base its work on the Intensive Community Mental Health Packages Guidelines released by the DHHS in March 2019 with the aim of seeing a group of clinicians with specialised clinical skill work to support clients currently engaged with the service but experiencing complex mental health needs complicated by recurring acute episodes of care and at risk of repeat admissions without increased intensive interventions. Examples of the possible interventions may include but not be limited to AOD support, CBT, Family Therapy including single session work and Peer support.

About the Role

The role of ICP Manager is anticipated to be a combined management and clinical role providing both leadership and a reduced clinical case load. As this is a new team the successful applicant will have the rare opportunity to work with the Casey Unit Head Psychiatrist, the Director of Clinical Operations and the Community Mental Health Services Manager in the shaping and recruiting to this team of up to 9.5 EFT. Teams within this area are encouraged and supported to think broadly and seek innovative opportunities for a recovery based provision of care and this service development process will certainly provide that opportunity.

Once established the manager will continue to be involved in a supportive management team and work more closely with our Continuing Care team and Mobile Support Team manager in providing a seamless model of care to clients within the Casey Mental Health Service requiring additional intensive and targeted interventions to support their recovery journey.

Ongoing support will be provided by the Community Mental Health Services Manager in combination with any discipline specific supports required.

About You

We are seeking a candidate with effective leadership, management and clinical skill to work with a supportive Senior Leadership team in developing and designing this new clinical service. You will demonstrate the ability to provide strong and effective clinical leadership in developing along with the local management team a service capable of providing recovery based care in a targeted manner to some of our most vulnerable clients.

You will possess the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to support team development whilst guiding staff in both the provision of quality care within the financial targets and achieving the mandated Key Performance Indicators including contact hours.

You will develop a strong partnership with the Clinical Psychiatrist working with the team and support staff as a strong clinical team to provide a strong and evidence based model of care focussed on Recovery principles.

What you need:

  • NURSING - requires post graduate diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, Masters Qualification desirable OR a specialist post basic course of training which lead to registration as a Division 3 Nurse
    • You are expected to be registered with AHPRA
  • ALLIED HEALTH/OT- requires Bachelor of Occupational Therapy or equivalent and eligible for membership with Occupational Therapy Australia
  • ALLIED HEALTH/SW- requires an approved degree in Social Work or other qualification approved for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers OR 5 year post registration experience in mental health
    • Post Graduate Masters of Social Work studies or equivalent
  • ALL CANDIDATES
    • MINIMUM 5 years of experience in a relevant Mental Health setting
    • Community Mental Health Experience
    • Desirable post graduate qualification or working towards same
