We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Family/Carer Peer Worker - Level 3 to provide lived experience support in the new Mental Health and Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) Response team.

Based in the Emergency Department at Monash Medical Centre, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to provide valuable peer support to family members and carers of consumers attending the emergency Department with mental health and/or alcohol and other drug challenges. Family/Carer Peer Workers will also continue to support family members and carers following the discharge of the consumer from the ED for up to 28 days, as part of the assertive outreach team.

The successful candidate will have experience of caring for someone with significant mental health challenges, and the ability to share their carer lived experience, where appropriate, to support other family members and carers to build understanding, hope and resilience in line with peer support principles.

The successful candidate will also have experience of working in a lived experience role and the ability to coach, mentor and lead others.

This position is part of a team of both Family/Carer and Consumer Peer Workers, where orientation and ongoing training, support, mentoring and supervision is provided by the Peer Worker Team Leader. As a team player, you will be able to establish strong, positive working relationships with other peers within the team, as well as Emergency Department medical and nursing staff, mental health staff, alcohol and drug service staff, and allied health clinicians.

This position is being offered as permanent part-time (8 or 9 days per fortnight).
