About our Mental Health Intellectual Disability Initiative – Adults (MHIDI)-A at Monash Health

Stronger Together (MHIDI-A) team is part of the Adult Mental Health program and is located in Thomas Street, Dandenong. We provide consultation, multidisciplinary specialist assessment and treatment to people who have been diagnosed over the age of 16 years, with developmental-intellectual disability and a co-existing diagnosed mental health condition or suspected mental health condition, many of whom will have complex presentations and challenging behaviours.

About the Role

The Dual Disability Senior Clinician is a new role to our team. This role works in collaboration with the clinical team and a range of internal and external stakeholders, to assist in improved outcomes for consumers with diagnosed or suspected mental illness and co-existing intellectual disability (dual disability). This will be achieved by developing, implementing and evaluating education and training as in relation to the MHIDI-A program objectives. This role will also carry a small clinical case load.

This opportunity is full time role ongoing role working Monday to Friday. The position will also work in collaboration with other team members to consolidate the Model of Care, formulate clear service policy and guidelines and ensure the service is compliant with Quality & Safety, OHS and all other areas of reporting.

About You

You are a suitably qualified Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist with exceptional clinical knowledge and assessment skills, experience in capacity building and ability to work with a range of stakeholders. You have experience in or have a keen interest in the intellectual disability sector. Whilst you can work autonomously you are also a strong team player and work efficiently in a team environment and are passionate to achieve outstanding outcomes for our consumers. You are also an advocate of Monash Health’s Strategic Guiding Principles.

What You Need:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and/or Social Work
  • Current Victorian Drivers Licence
  • Experience working with people with a Dual disability; Mental Health and Intellectual Disability is highly desirable but not essential

Nursing:

  • Refer to attachment
  • Registered Nurse with current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
  • Post Graduate Masters qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program

Speech Pathology:

  • Bachelor or entry level Masters Speech Pathology Qualification
  • Eligibility for certified practising membership of Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Minimum seven years’ experience as a qualified Speech Pathologist.

Occupational Therapy:

  • B. App Sc (OT), B. Occupational Therapy, or Master of Occupational Therapy
  • Must be registered under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Minimum seven years’ experience as a registered OT.

Social Work:

  • An Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) accredited Bachelor Degree or entry level Masters Degree of Social Work which provides eligibility for membership of the AASW.
  • Requires a minimum of 7 years’ experience in the field of clinical mental health.
  • Written evidence of eligibility for AASW membership for overseas qualifications as required.
