About Us

The Home Building Advocacy Service (HoBAS) is a state-wide program that provides legal advice and advocacy services to NSW residential home building consumers before the NSW Civil and Administrative tribunal. HoBAS targets consumers who have an ongoing dispute with a building contractor despite prior involvement by NSW Fair Trading. We prioritise assisting a range of disadvantaged groups, including members of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, people living in rural, regional or remote communities, elderly people and members of culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

About the Role

The Home Building Advocacy Service is seeking a passionate and motivated solicitor to join our team.

Key Responsibilities include:

• All aspects of legal service provision including advice and representations
• Managing your file load autonomously
• Building and maintaining relationships with other legal and non-legal providers
• Participation in community legal education events and programs

About You

As part of the team, you would provide a range of legal services to NSW home building consumers. The ideal candidate will be passionate about social justice and committed to serving the community.

Selection Criteria:

1. Qualified to practice as a solicitor in NSW and holds a current practicing certificate.
2. Two years post-admission legal experience.
3. Superior oral and written communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
4. Ability to work autonomously, manage and organise your workload and meet deadlines.
5. Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
6. Understanding of and commitment to the work of Community Legal Centres and demonstrated understanding of barriers to justice facing disadvantaged groups.
7. Sound computer skills.
8. A current Working with Children Check or willingness to attain same.
