The Cumberland Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service Administration Assistant provides support that is relevant, accessible and responsive to women and children who have been affected by family or domestic violence. A good understanding of the issues in relation to domestic violence is an essential skill for this position.

Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 31 of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act, 1977.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client support (advocacy, court support, referrals assistance)
  • Liaison with other WDVCAS partners/services
  • Networking
  • Community education
  • Administration (data collection, reporting, maintenance of files)
  • General duties

Duration: Part-time (14-21 hours per week), until 31 December 2021 (this maybe extended, subject to funding).

Location: Parramatta

Remuneration: Level 2, Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHCADS) Industry Award 2010

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated understanding of clients affected and escaping domestic violence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice response to domestic and family violence including AVO applications and criminal prosecutions and related legal matters such as family law, care and protection, migration and victim’s compensation issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis and provide appropriate, trauma-informed support.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • A current Working with Children and relevant NSW Police Force Checks are a requirement of this position.
