About MITS

The Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS) is a residential transition school for Indigenous students from remote and regional communities. Each year, 22 boys and girls at Year 7 come to MITS for one year. MITS believes that wellbeing is central to the continuing success of its students, and tailors its programs to reflect this philosophy. Our students are supported throughout their educational pathway.

About the role

You have a strong administrative background and want to play a vital role in supporting and advancing Indigenous youth. You will enjoy a small team environment, getting involved across a range of duties and a very varied and autonomous day.

You have extensive and broad experience in an Administrative role with a sound knowledge of Accounts, Records Management, and MS Office (advanced Word and Excel). Naturally you have the capacity to prioritise, juggle a number of tasks, implement procedures, assist with events and manage projects. This role includes:

  • Executive support You will work closely with the Executive Director across a wide range of projects, operational and administrative duties so are a proven administrator with Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal as well as organisational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • Accounts: maintain accounts in Xero Accounting so a general knowledge of financial transactions, accounting software (Xero, MYOB, Quicken, etc), reconciliations is important.
  • Records Management: You will be responsible for maintaining records so a good understanding of database management plus a deep respect for confidentiality is essential
  • HR: get involved with staff records, recruitment and people management so a general knowledge of HR is a bonus
  • People & Culture: You will be an important point of contact for families, donors, supporters and visitors so the ability to represent MITS values is essential
