Walk Free is Minderoo’s global initiative to end all forms of modern slavery. Tackling one of the world’s largest and most complex human rights issues requires serious strategic thinking.

About the role

We are looking for a dynamic, experienced professional with experience working on sustainability, ESG criteria and/or business and human rights issues. The role can be based in Perth, Melbourne, or Sydney, with a regional remit. As a Financial Sector Engagement Manager, you will work with stakeholders to raise awareness of human trafficking and modern slavery in Asia-Pacific and the financial sector’s role in combatting it.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and support investors to take action against slavery, specifically through Walk Free’s role as the Secretariat for Investors Against Slavery and Trafficking (Asia Pacific) initiative. 
  • Leverage Walk Free and our partners’ research and expertise to promote good practice in the region.
  • Identify other opportunities to engage institutional investors, banks, and other financial sector institutions to combat slavery.
  • Build and manage relationships with investors and support expansion to key Asian markets.
  • Oversee project management of the initiative, creating and managing workplans and tracking investor engagement and reporting against key milestones.
  • Provide strategic guidance on modern slavery risks in specific sectors, including through leveraging Walk Free’s research and expertise and facilitating input from key civil society partners.
  • Engage with business and government leaders through the Bali Process Government and Business Forum, identifying legal and regulatory changes that support this work
  • Explore opportunities to work with regional stock exchanges to promote best practice for companies.
  • Convene and present at regional meetings and facilitate partnerships to support the objectives.
  • Travel to Asia and across Australia when circumstances allow.

About you

You will have 10+ years of relevant professional experience with a relevant tertiary qualification. Experience working in, with or on the financial sector and/or experience working on modern slavery and human trafficking issues, or in related business and human rights or sustainability contexts. Strong networks in the financial/business community. Civil society networks are desirable.

You will have strong writing ability and impeccable communication skills – you are able to produce targeted communications for high level stakeholders.

You are a confident public speaker and have the ability to lead meetings with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
