Mind Australia is one of the country’s leading community-managed specialist mental health service providers with a range of residential, mobile outreach, centre based and online services. We have been supporting people living with the day-to-day impacts of mental illness, as well as their families, friends and carers for over 45 years.
We provide practical and motivational support that helps people to develop the skills they need to move on, thrive and improve the quality of their lives. It’s an approach to mental health and wellbeing that looks at the whole person in the context of their daily life. Mind is committed to diversity and social inclusion.
The Community Care Unit (CCU) is a residential service providing intensive treatment and recovery support to help people experiencing serious mental health issues whose lives have been disrupted making living independently difficult. Clients can access staff 24/7 whilst being supported to stabilise their mental health, define recovery goals and wellbeing outcomes, build daily living skills, strengthen relationships with families and carers, develop social connections and community networks and increase capacity to live independently. The CCU service provides personalised one-to-one support, shared supports, workshops and group activities based on client’s strengths and goals as identified in their individual recovery plan.
We are seeking a compassionate Peer Practitioner for an 8 month fixed term, part time (15.2 hours per week) opportunity with possible extension for a motivated, passionate Peer Practitioner to work in a residential Community Care Unit (CCU) in Cairns. You will utilise your lived experience of mental ill health and recovery to support clients and ensure services are aligned with goals and aspirations identified in individual recovery plans.
