About the role

Mind operate Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Short-Term Accommodation services for people with severe and enduring psychosocial disability, these residences are staffed 24/7 and funded through residents’ NDIS packages. Our practice is guided by Mind’s model of recovery oriented practice, SIL model and the Dual Disability framework, services operate in collaboration with the local community with a focus on supporting people to achieve their life goals.

We are seeking compassionate, resilient Mental Health Support Workers for casual opportunities to work on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Preston area. Available immediately, you will play an integral role in developing individual programs and providing recovery-oriented psychosocial support to assist clients work towards wellbeing and independent living.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide positive educational and social experiences to clients, families and carers in a residential setting.
  • Support clients by including families and carers in the recovery program through provision of education and information.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aids clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Contribute to the day to day operations of the residential service including housekeeping duties and maintaining tenancy partnerships.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate III) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NDIS and the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health.
