About the role

The Community Care Units (CCU) program provides intensive treatment and recovery support in a residential setting for up to two years to help people stabilise their mental health and gain necessary skills to move back into the community. Providing one-to-one peer support and group peer-led activities the service focuses on the development of client’s social and daily living skills and building confidence to live independently.

We have a full time, fixed term 6 month Maternity Leave opportunity for a motivated Community Mental Health Practitioner in our 24 hour, 7 day a week CCU in Toowoomba. You will deliver high quality recovery oriented, direct psycho-social support and case work to clients, their families and carers using Mind’s Model of Recovery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to individual clients in a residential setting.
  • Support clients by delivering high quality service and facilitating positive educational and social experiences.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team and with a range of services, and the community, to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues who have complex needs and experienced interacting with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders.
  • Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health.
