About the role

As a Community Mental Health Practitioner, you will deliver a high quality, recovery oriented, direct psycho-social support through individual and group work to young people and their families and carers using a model of recovery oriented practice. Mind is looking for innovative and dynamic casuals to join two of our services in Cairns working in partnership with Hinterland Hospital and Health Service.

Cairns Adult Step Up Step Down (SUSD)

The Cairns Adult SUSD is a twelve bed residential service offering a short term (up to 28 days) recovery focused residential service for people who are either leaving acute mental health care, or who would benefit from 24 hour support to avoid a hospital admission.

Cairns Community Care Unit (CCU)

The Community Care Unit (CCU) is for individuals who are over 18 years of age and who have complex needs that require more intensive, extended, residential rehabilitation assistance.

Duties

  • Assisting the customer with actioning their individual recovery plan
  • Supporting families and carers
  • Delivering group work programs and assisting with social activities
  • Contributing to the day-to-day operations of the service

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Cert IV in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health related field) as designated by Mind
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities flexibly, proactively and with ease
  • Demonstrated experience in providing consistent, professional customer service to both customers and stakeholders
  • Understanding of available community services, networks and support
