About the role

The Sub-Acute Eastern IPRSS program supports individuals with mental health issues within a framework of recovery that is focused on strengths and capabilities. IPRSS supports clients to maintain a sustainable purposeful lifestyle that has meaning and value, actively participate in community life and reduce social isolation, and enhance independent living skills and establish positive connection with external service providers, family and carers.

We are seeking a compassionate, experienced Community Mental Health Practitioner - Lead Practitioner - First Nations for a permanent, part time (26 hours per week) opportunity on Kaurna Country. Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, you will act as the practice lead and provide person-centred, recovery-oriented supports in line with Mind’s Model of Recovery-Oriented Practice to ensure identified goals and aspirations align with an individual’s plan.

Key responsibilities

  • Coach a team to deliver culturally safe, high quality outreach supports and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Utilise person-centred, recovery-orientated techniques and a staged approach to recovery to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s goals.
  • Build client trust through strengths based engagement and develop relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services, local communities, kinship groups and elders.
  • Support clients to reconnect or connect with the communities and services, and educate stakeholders to understand the health benefits of connection with country and community.
  • Lead the implementation of the SA Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field and/or equivalent experience in similar role.
  • Expertise in working with First Nations peoples with mental health issues who have complex needs and strong experience interacting with communities, families and carers.
  • Understanding of the link between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health outcomes, disconnection from community and mental health.
  • Previous experience in supporting, mentoring and coaching a team.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers, local communities and elders.
