About the role

The Individual Recovery Support Program (IRSP) is an outreach service providing a person-centred, evidence based approach to recovery tailored to meet individual needs. Outreach services are delivered to adults 18 years and over within the community who have severe mental ill health and recently accessed mental health clinical services. IRSP provides streamlined processes, high quality responsiveness and integrated psychosocial rehabilitation with clinical supports underpinned by Mind’s Model of Recovery Oriented Practice. The service refers clients to the Group Based Recovery Support Program (GBRSP) to ensure holistic needs and recovery goals are met.

We are seeking empathetic, self-motivated Community Mental Health Practitioners for a fixed-term, full-time opportunity until June 2026, to work alongside a caring team in the Cairns area. Working from home, you will provide high quality, recovery-focused outreach services to clients including face-to-face, online and telephone supports. As this position requires travel a fully maintained company car is provided.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high quality outreach services and facilitate positive educational and social experiences.
  • Support clients to return to their community, live independently and enjoy a meaningful life through a staged approach to recovery.
  • Provide information and mentoring to clients to establish connections with families and carers, create social and community networks, and access relevant services.
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery.
  • Collaborate with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated, integrated response to client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field.
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers.
  • Proven capability to implement therapeutic, recovery oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers, clinical teams and key stakeholders.
  • Able to provide a record of Vaccination Preventable Diseases or able to obtain vaccinations against Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox, Whooping Cough, Hepatitis B or other diseases as required by our Partnership with QLD Health.
