About the role

The Community Care Units (CCU) program provides intensive treatment and recovery support in a residential setting (up to two years) to help people stabilise their mental health and gain the skills necessary to move back into the community. Clients are provided care by a 24/7 clinical team and Mind staff who focus on supporting development of social and daily living skills as well as building confidence to live independently.

We have a permanent, part time (30 hours per week) opportunity for a self-motivated, empathetic Community Mental Health Practitioner to work on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Cairns area. You will deliver person-centred, recovery oriented support to clients and ensure identified goals and aspirations are aligned with individual recovery plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients using targeted and integrated case managed responses
  • Support clients by delivering high quality service and facilitating positive educational and social experiences
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team offering specialised psychosocial support
  • Operate collaboratively with a range of services and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals
  • Plan and deliver group programs that aid clients to build their skills and focus on recovery

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy or other health-related field
  • Expertise in working with people with mental health issues who have complex needs and experienced interacting with families and carers
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with agencies, clinical providers and key stakeholders
  • Relevant experience in facilitating group activities for clients experiencing mental ill health
