About the role

Mind’s Equality Centre’s provides support individuals, couples and families from the LGBTIQA+ community to live well and improve mental health outcomes. Services are tailored and utilise a range of psychological interventions including brief therapies, motivational techniques and specialist skills. The After Care program delivers peer-based psychological support and group work to LGBTIQA+ people with mental ill health, this peer-driven approach integrates evidence-based practice with community insights to provide a holistic, innovative model of care.

We have a permanent, full time opportunity for an Allied Health Clinician - LGBTIQA+ Psychologist who is passionate about working with LGBTQIA+ community to provide holistic, person-centred care at the Equality Centre in Fitzroy North. You will deliver quality therapeutic and mental health intervention support to clients who experience thoughts of suicide and have complex care needs. The Psychologist will provide expert clinical assessments and interventions including a strengths-based approach and assertive follow-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive therapeutic support services including an advanced level assessment, diagnosis, brief intervention, treatment planning and evaluation, education and research in line with professional, ethical and National Standards.
  • Support clients following a suicide attempt or with suicidal ideation with referral management, assertive follow up and recovery-focused services utilising knowledge of the needs of the LGBTIQA+ community.
  • Utilise professional judgement in complex cases adapting routine clinical practice based on valid and reliable evidence for clients.
  • Collaborate with a range of services, healthcare professionals and the community to ensure a co-ordinated and integrated response to the client’s recovery goals.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Psychology or other health related field with the ability to hold AHPRA registration.
  • Expertise in working with people from LGBTIQA+ community, mental health issues, complex needs, and collaborating with families and carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Community Services sector and ability to build strong relationships with service providers and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise to meet client’s service delivery requirements.
