The Mill House works with businesses that seek to trade for purpose. Entrepreneurs that are passionate about solving problems in the community often face barriers to business education and investment. We exist to support their inclusion into the mainstream market.

about the role

The SEIRs serve as subject matter experts in business development through practitioner talks, classroom presentations, one-on-one client, coaching, event coordination, and research engagements. Throughout their tenure, SEIRs share their expertise, and networks with targeted community organisations and for-profit social enterprises with high potential to scale their social, cultural, environment or economic impact.

In addition to their own skills, experience, and network, the SEIR will leverage the resources and expertise of the extensive Mill House mentor network, Faculties of the University of Canberra and the broader Canberra Innovation Network.

As SEIR is a new role at Mill House, we are flexible in how it can be delivered. We are open to a combination of face to face and virtual/distance arrangements.

However, our expectations at this stage, our expectations are that the SEIR will:

  • Become a part of the Social Enterprise Hub at the University of Canberra through being present on the campus at least one day a week
  • Participate in the Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator events, be a guest speaker in Social Enterprise academic units
  • Hold virtual open office hours for advising and consulting for our undergraduate and graduate students, Mill House Social Enterprise Accelerator alumni
  • Work closely with the Chief Impact Officer in the development of our bespoke social enterprise growth offerings, REFINE and Growth Labs

The SEIR will receive

  • A stipend and parking passes for scheduled days on campus (or virtual days as agreed)
  • Physical space for office hours, meetings, and independent work
  • Administrative support for coordinating meetings and events on campus Staff Affiliate Status in the University of Canberra Faculty of Business Government and Law
  • Other resources in coordination with the Mill House General Manager
