The Social Policy Group (SPG) is a national body with specialist expertise in social policy, social and community cohesion, population diversity, gender equality, access and equity, community participation and inclusion, systems’ responsiveness, community outreach and engagement, and digital and multilingual communications. SPG is an umbrella organisation for a number of national bodies and initiatives, including Harmony Alliance: Migrant and Refugee Women for Change, Migration Council Australia, Migrant and Refugee Health Partnership, Centre of Digital Wellbeing, and Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity, among others.

About the position

The successful applicant will be required to work across a range of projects and facilitate a number of programs with a focus on digital, in-language communications products, designed to improve access to services and information for migrant and refugee communities.

Primary responsibilities

  • Facilitate a range of projects with a focus on digital, in-language communication products
  • Support the project manager in the timely delivery of project outcomes
  • Work with a wide range of stakeholders and build meaningful and lasting professional relationships
  • Develop tools and resources for people from migrant and refugee backgrounds and communities, as well as relevant sectors.
  • General Administrative tasks
  • Basic procurement
  • Produce, review and edit reports and project documents
  • Carry out other duties in this regard as requested by supervisor.

The mix of activities in this role varies in accordance with work priorities and can shift from week to week. Flexibility, versatility and resourcefulness are essential in our small team.

Key selection criteria

Essential:

  • Understanding of how to work within a project management environment, especially as a project officer
  • Ability to tailor communication to the intended audience through strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior experience with stakeholder engagement and management.
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in supporting project teams during all stages of a project’s lifecycle.
  • High levels of organisation and ability to handle multiple tasks, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Self-motivation and ability to deal with a high level of responsibility.
  • Strong computer literacy skills.
  • Adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively and independently within a small team.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of, and commitment to social issues, including the issues of migrants and refugees.
  • Project support expertise and formal qualifications in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Knowledge of government and public policy processes.
