About this opportunity

The CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) Project based in South Western Sydney has been created to support CALD population with SW Sydney who are not accessing services (e.g. the NDIS support services) and related government subsidies that they may be entitled to at the same rate as other Australians.

The Project Officer will assist in establishing connections with the Arabic community by sourcing and engaging with CALD organisations and community groups. Home visits and outreach to potential participants will be facilitated by the Project Officer which will include communication in the Arabic language. Project Officer will also co-facilitate workshops designed with the Arabic community to create a toolkit that will then be implemented across Wellways services.

The Project Officers role will involve:

  • Sourcing and engaging CALD organisations and community groups to be a part of the project
  • Conducting home visits and outreach to members of the Arabic community utilising extensive Arabic language skills
  • Co-facilitation of a series of community workshops to develop a toolkit
  • Assisting in sourcing volunteers and community "Champions" to support outreach into the Arabic community
  • Assist in researching current approaches to CALD engagement in Australia and elsewhere
  • Leading cross-language communication between members of the Arabic community and the Project Management team

What do you need?

  • Diploma level qualifications or higher in a relevant subject
  • Fluent and literate in English and Arabic
  • A current valid Driver's License
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check [less than 12 months old] and Working with Children Check, prior to commencement
  • Right to Work within Australia.
  • NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) Worker Orientation Module Certificate is mandatory prior to commencement: https://www.ndiscommission.gov.au/workers/support-for-workers/training-course
  • Ability to participate in out of hours' activities as required to undertake the role
