The primary purpose of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Support Service Coordinator is to help provide a pathway to support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to access non-clinical care and practical support in the first 3 months following a suicide attempt. In addition, the role will assist in facilitating and supporting partnerships with Aboriginal controlled organisations, including Aboriginal Medical Services and Corporations.
As a Suicide Support Service Coordinator you will support participation in the service, with a particular focus on men and other groups known to be at higher risk of suicides. Your objective will be to help a person stay safe and connect with existing health and community services during a period of high risk and vulnerability. Your role will ensure that people are motivated to stay safe, to access treatment and to learn skills to avoid another suicide attempt.
