Metro Assist, a not for profit organisation, is seeking a highly experienced and qualified Psychologist or Child & Family Counsellor to join our dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will possess experience in improving child and family outcomes for children at Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH), and individuals and families with complex needs and/or vulnerabilities by: 

  • Enhancing child safety, parent capacity and family function;
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the formulation and review of case plans, and effective design and evaluation of services/programs; and
  • Provision of clinical counselling, consultations, assessments and therapeutic interventions.

The Psychologist or Counsellor will incorporate the trauma informed approach to help address parent child relationship and family concerns, in an early intervention and preventative context. 

The role will champion collaboration with other staff and agencies to ensure a holistic and outcomes based approach for young people and families, working closely with Inner West Family Caseworkers as required.  The role will also include other duties including care coordination support to young people, individuals and families, facilitation of groups, intake, community engagement work, and maintaining data and reporting requirements. This position will also have a role in ongoing service development. 

ESSENTIAL SELECTION CRITERIA  

  1. Post graduate qualifications in Psychology or Degree in Counselling.
  2. Registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Australian Psychological Society (APS) or Full membership of AASW (Australian Association of Social Workers) or clinical membership of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia).
  3. Minimum 3 years therapeutic work experience and skills in providing counselling services addressing emotional and/or behavioural needs to children and adolescents, and their families, who may be experiencing known vulnerabilities within the child protection system with children, young persons and families.
  4. Commitment to and experience in the provision of child inclusive, family-centred, strengths based and trauma informed models of practice, within an early intervention and child protection framework.
  5. Demonstrated expertise conducting assessments and the ability to adapt standardised approaches to meet the needs of clients with complex needs and/or vulnerabilities and ability to administer and interpret psychometric assessments.
  6. Proven excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with an ability to negotiate complex and often sensitive issues with clients, carers, staff and other relevant key stakeholders.
  7. Strong understanding of child-centred practices for the needs of children, families and people from culturally diverse backgrounds, whilst delivering outcomes within an evidence based framework.
  8. Knowledge and experience of complex child protection issues within ROSH domain with local knowledge of community services for referrals, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate resources.
  9. Possess current full driver’s license and access to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance, and prepared to undergo a Police and a Working With Children Check.
  10. Proven ability to work collaboratively as a positive team member.

DESIRABLE SELECTION CRITERIA  

  1. Previous experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
  2. Strong IT skills, knowledge and understanding of MS office programs particularly Word, Outlook and Excel.
