Meridian is Canberra’s leading LGBTIQ and HIV+ community organisation. Formerly the AIDS Action Council, Meridian was established in 1983 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic and has a strong and proud history of working with and representing diverse groups of people. This includes gay and bisexual and other men who have sex with men, lesbian and queer women, transgender and gender diverse people, people with disability, sex workers, people who use drugs, and people in custodial settings. Over this time, we have learnt to be dynamic, intersectional, and progressive with our approach to tackling complex social health issues such as HIV/AIDS and the health and wellbeing of sexuality, sex and gender diverse people. Our vision is to build strong, connected and supportive communities that are free of new HIV transmission, marginalisation, discrimination and stigma. THE ROLE

This is a dynamic role that works with LGBTIQ+ community members and service providers across the aged care landscape. The Coordinator will be responsible for delivering a number of projects including Silver Rainbow Aged Care Training and Capacity Building and a new Aged Care Service Navigation trial.

As part of the role, the Coordinator will be required to:

  • Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of seniors and aged care programs and services including the delivery of workshops and presentations
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities for Meridian’s seniors and aged care projects
  • Work with of aged care service providers to increase their capacity to deliver LGBTIQ+ inclusive services through the delivery of training, the development of policy and procedures and other capacity building initiatives
  • Ensure currency with the latest research and best practise on ageing, HIV and LGBTIQ+ health in the ACT and nationally
  • Recruit, train and support senior LGBTIQ+ volunteers to act as Aged Care Navigators.

SKILLS REQUIRED

This role is suited to a person with:

  • Tertiary and/or vocational qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. public policy, health education or community development)
  • Demonstrated experience in vocational training and education
  • High level writing and editing skills with an emphasis on clear communication
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including facilitation, negotiation and networking skills, with an ability to establish common goals
  • Proven ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision, but also able to work collaboratively with a diverse team to meet the needs of the management, community and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS, STIs and LGBTIQ+ issues, knowledge of the aged care sector, National Aged Care Standards and My Aged Care
  • Demonstrated skills and ability to communicate effectively and with sensitivity with/and about people of diverse gender, sex and sexualities to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Able to demonstrate high levels of competency in using computers, with familiarisation with the Windows environment, Microsoft Office applications and online conferencing platforms (Zoom, WebEx).
