About the Role

The Program Manager – Overseas is responsible for managing international projects in the Asia Pacific region in Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Philippines to help realise Mercy Works’ vision. The Program Manager – Overseas works closely with the Executive Director to understand and reflect the needs of Mercy Works in its development and relief programs.

The Program Manager – Overseas also works with partners and colleagues to demonstrate the impact of Mercy Works’ vision.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing and monitoring program strategies and plans, including participation and contribution of primary stakeholders and local partners, to achieve durable and lasting development change.
  • Identifying and developing potential program offerings and opportunities, including participation and contribution of primary stakeholders and local partners, to enhance the quality of existing projects.
  • Managing reporting to MWL on overseas program outcomes and budgets.
  • Contributing to increasing the awareness of programs.
  • Ensuring relevant standards, processes/procedures and regulations are upheld.
  • Contributing to the performance of Mercy Works: leading by example, demonstrating professional conduct, making the best use of knowledge, experience and skills, and modelling Mercy mission and values.
  • Ensuring a safe working environment by taking accountability for own actions and complying with the organisation’s WHS policies and procedures.

The employee is required to undertake any other duties, projects or tasks as directed by the Executive Director, which are within his/her skills, competence and training. The position is for 22.5 hours per week over three days, based in the Mercy Works Office in Parramatta, NSW.

About You (Selection Criteria)

  • Degree qualification in international and community development or a related discipline with contemporary experience in program management; or substantial contemporary experience in program management, coupled with ongoing professional development to support contemporary knowledge.
  • Contemporary knowledge and demonstrated experience in designing and overseeing international community development programs with local staff and with partner organisations.
  • Contemporary knowledge and proven experience of good practice standards and compliance requirements of bodies such as the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), and the Australian Council for International Development (ACFID).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic long-term meaningful partnerships with a diverse range of cross-cultural work teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in various written and oral styles, including international community development and educational presentations.
  • Proven ability to work productively in a cross-functional team environment.
  • A commitment and personal alignment with Mercy mission and values.

A willingness and ability to travel internationally, when COVID permits.
