The Families and Young People Services Team currently have a fixed term full-time vacancy for a Case Worker – The Family Unit, to join the Mercy Community team based in Hillcrest until 22 October 2020.

The role

As a Case Worker in The Family Unit, you will be responsible for quality service delivery to children, young people, families and the community within the service. This will entail providing coordination for every phase of casework for families, from the point of referral to exit; with a view to supporting highly vulnerable families to become stronger, capable and more resilient and improving overall wellbeing.

To be eligible for this position you will require (Key Selection Criteria):

Level 3

  • 3 or 4 year tertiary qualification in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or related discipline.

Level 4

  • Relevant 3 year degree with at least 2 years’ previous relevant experience, or 4 year degree with at least 1 year’s previous relevant experience.

Both Levels

  • Sound knowledge of the Queensland child protection system.
  • Proven time management skills, with ability to balance and prioritise various client engagement, staff and administrative requirements
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MS Word and Excel.
  • Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver’s License.
  • Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card), positive Police Check and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required
  • Evidence of current vaccination against whooping cough or willingness to obtain prior to commencement, unless applicable exemption provided as per the relevant Mercy Community procedure.
  • Provide a clear, expressed understanding of the complex challenges facing families in contemporary society.
  • Possess a well-developed professional framework (values, beliefs, knowledge, skills, systems etc.) for working with vulnerable families to facilitate resilience and social connectedness; including the ability to personally engage in reflective practice within a structured supervision model.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, use communication effectively across a variety of contexts to bring about change and to share information meaningfully; including strategies for negotiating strong differences of opinion within the team, family and stakeholder relations.
  • Ability to self-motivate, exercise creativity and initiative, and take ownership of the role.
  • Willing and able to work within a Christian context and Mercy Community’s mission, purpose and values.

It is beneficial for candidates to have:

  • Experience in strengths-based casework with complex families.
  • Experience in Risk Assessment processes.
  • Child health & development expertise.
  • Broad knowledge of a range of safe parenting practices.
  • Adult education/training qualifications.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and societies and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally appropriate engagement and practice.

This position offers a competitive remuneration package of $60,248 - $74,456 gross per annum in line with our Enterprise Agreement (dependant on qualifications and experience) and other benefits in line with our Agreement.
