Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Lead

This role is responsible for supporting the Mercy Community Board, Executive and Senior Leadership Teams and all employees in driving relationships, respect and opportunities with and for Mercy Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander team members. To do this, the role will be responsible for leading;

  • The implementation of the Mercy Community Reconciliation Action Plan deliverables, and
  • The development of a culturally competent framework to support Mercy Community Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and
  • In the delivery of effective services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and stakeholders as required.

Please note, that to perform this role, it is essential that the person who holds the position be an Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander person and is therefore a genuine occupational requirement under section 25, 104 and 105 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).

This is a full-time role based in Brisbane for an initial period of 12 months with possibility of extension, part-time arrangements will be considered for the right candidate

About You…

  • Minimum 3-5 year experience performing a similar role/responsibility (Tertiary qualifications in Community Services or similar field would be an advantage).
  • Relevant leadership and experience within a social services organisation preferred.
  • High levels of cultural competency, knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples.
  • A strong understanding of the issues which impact upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary society together with a commitment to culturally appropriate engagement and practice.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.
  • Connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and/or agencies.
  • Ability to review, inform and support strategies and processes to enhance inclusive relationships and workforce processes within an organisation, including facilitating staff development activities.
  • Demonstrated intermediate ability to use computer IT systems including MSOffice.
  • Proven experience in building and sustaining productive internal and external key stakeholder relationships, and working collaboratively to foster positive and cohesive work environment across the organisation.
  • Willing and able to work within a Christian context and Mercy Community mission, purpose and values.
  • Queensland Provisional Green or above Driver Licence.
  • Ability to obtain positive notice in the Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and any other legislatively required personal history screening as required.
