About the role

Due to recent service expansion, MercyCare is now seeking a Youth Triage Officer on a full time basis until 30 June 2021, to work across our offices in West Perth, Mirrabooka and Cannington. Reporting to the Manager Youth Services, you will be receiving and assessing referrals for programs within the Youth and Homelessness area.

The role will be responsible for assessing referrals and adopting a triage approach to direct referrals to appropriate programs within MercyCare or other community agencies. As such you must have demonstrated experience working with young people and their families, as well as knowledge of assessment practices relevant to young people. The role may also contribute to the development of policy and procedure and best practice intervention while also networking with other agencies in the community sector. The Youth Triage officer will have a sound knowledge base of trauma informed practise, mental health, homelessness and children and family issues.  

To be considered for this role, you will also require:

  • Bachelor level university degree in social or behavioural science (e.g. psychology, social work, youth work)
  • Experience with triage and risk assessment
  • Demonstrated experience in counselling, intervention techniques and service models
  • Experience in coordinating and case managing youth services
  • Computer and information technology competency
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, including de-escalation
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Provide First Aid Certificate
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • National Police Clearance (no older than 6 months)
