The Opportunity

As Team Leader of the Projects team in the Young Communities service unit, you will lead the team to design, deliver projects that meet with Council’s strategic plans, respond to the needs of young people within the community and meet all required obligations of external funding providers. You will implement systems that monitor, report and evaluate the efficacy of programs and ensure alignment to Council’s strategic direction.

Reporting to the Coordinator Young Communities, the role will report, monitor, evaluate and analyse performance of core programs and services making recommendations on future service provision in line with Councils strategic direction; whilst actively seek opportunities for additional funding to expand programs. The role will engage with young people across the municipality and other key stakeholders (agencies and community groups) to develop and implement improved services / programs to enhance participation of young people.

You will have strong people leadership skills and a demonstrated ability to take a lead role in providing advice and setting direction on a range of youth related issues, strategy and policy initiatives.

You will have well-developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills including the development of strategy, policy and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide active and effective leadership, support and supervision for the Projects team, managing resources to achieve targeted objectives with a focus on staff development.
  • Report, monitor, evaluate and analyse performance of core programs and services making recommendations on future service provisions in line with Councils strategic direction; actively seek opportunities for additional funding to expand programs.
  • Develop promotional strategies ensuring that programs, services and events are well publicised across the municipality and actively contribute toward the development of policy, procedures and strategies.
  • Monitor and report on the budget and assist with budget preparation.
  • Lead the Projects team to identify and actively seek opportunities for additional funding to expand programs for young people and their families.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Youth Work, Community Development and Welfare or a related discipline with relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in working with young people and their families using a family focussed approach to case management.
  • Relevant experience in working with young people and their families within a broader community context, that is inclusive of all community members.
  • Experience working within funded programs.
