The Opportunity

Melton City Council is committed to promoting and supporting the equal rights, opportunity and access for people with disabilities, their families and carers.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join the Community Care business unit as an Advocacy and Inclusion Officer. This exciting role assist Council’s effort to promote access, equity and inclusion through its strategies, policies, programs and services, and to identify and respond to access and inclusion needs in our community.

  • This position reports to Housing Services Coordinator.
  • This position liaise and engages with a diverse range of stakeholders including internal and external service providers, people with disabilities, their families and carers, community groups, and the general community.

Key Responsibilities

Implement and monitor Council’s Disability Strategic Plan and associated frameworks, strategies and action plans.

  • Facilitate and resource Council’s Disability Advisory Committee.
  • Undertake analysis on the current and emerging issues impacting people with disabilities, their families and carers.
  • Building capacity of Council staff, contractors and volunteers to strengthen inclusive practices and service delivery.
  • Identify, facilitate and strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders and the community to further enhance access and inclusion outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Community Development/Human Services/Community Services with substantial experience working in disability service sector.
  • Substantial experience in working with people with disabilities, their families and carers.
  • Effective skills in consultation, facilitation and engagement across a diverse range of stakeholders, in particular, people with disabilities, their families and carers.
  • Experience in developing and delivering professional development activities.
  • Experience in implementing and monitoring strategic action plans.
