Neuropsychiatry is a team dedicated to excellent patient care, research and innovation, it is recognised as a premier specialist service both nationally and internationally, providing outstanding clinical care and treatment, and working to improve the outcomes for all through a comprehensive research program, and the training of our future workforce. Neuropsychiatry is a clinical unit of the Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre, a joint clinical research centre of the University of Melbourne and Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Your new role

  • Work within an exciting role alongside a dedicated team.
  • Provide a high level of clinical expertise in supporting patients and their carers.
  • Work closely with the inpatient, outpatient and research team.
  • Recognise and respond to the needs of dependent children and vulnerable families.
  • Support the implementation and records of interventions and services delivered.

selection criteria

Formal Qualifications:

  • An approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Essential:

  • Commitment to live the Melbourne Way - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience as a Social Worker.
  • Knowledge of issues associated with neuropsychiatric illness and young onset dementia, and awareness of the impact of these on dependent children, family and carers including those from culturally diverse communities and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advanced social work practice, including individual, family and group work with consumers with complex mental health and psychosocial needs utilising a Recover Based Framework.
  • Ability to provide professional leadership, to initiate, develop and evaluate social work services in a psychiatric setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in the supervision of social work staff and social work students.

Desirable: 

  • Advanced counselling experience.
  • Current AASW Accredited Social Worker status and/or Accreditation as a Mental Health Social Worker.
  • Previous experience within a neurological or psychiatric inpatient or outpatient setting; an aged care related service, or progressive neurological setting.
