About the role

The Case Worker – Atrium Housing & Support provides structured support to people on bail who are accommodated in short term residential accommodation, along with assisting the general day to day running of the accommodation. The role is responsible for proactively assisting clients to comply with bail conditions and connect with community supports and services that support the person to address their individual criminogenic needs and divert people from further involvement in the criminal justice system. The Case Worker is also responsible for providing an effective reintegration pathway for eligible clients who are exiting the Atrium Housing & Support program. This is achieved through addressing the individual and complex transitional needs of each client through a responsive, tailored and flexible support approach, and providing intensive assistance and support to assist the transition of clients from being on bail to the community.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide proactive, structured, culturally appropriate case management and advocacy to clients using a strength based and coaching framework to assist clients in reaching self-management of their own needs and divert from further involvement in the criminal justice system.
  • Provide information to clients to assist them to understand themselves, issues impacting on their homelessness, drug and alcohol misuse and/or offending, their rights, and the services and supports available to assist them.
  • Support clients to build their resilience to self-manage their own needs in the community, providing the relevant stakeholders with an updated transition plan on exit from post program support.
  • Provide assertive and intensive support, including actively supporting access and referrals to other services for clients to address specific support needs which are aimed at reducing reoffending.

Skills & experience include but are not limited to:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Justice, Psychology, or related community services field, or a Certificate IV with demonstrated experience (minimum).
  • A clear understanding of working within a case management framework including client assessment and intake processes.
  • Strong ability to proactively and assertively engage people with complex needs, particularly in a residential and outreach environment.
  • An understanding of the homelessness and justice service systems with knowledge of patterns, trends and systemic issues, and principles in working with at risk people.
