About the program

Frontyard is a specialist youth service (15 – 24 years) providing a range of multidisciplinary, intensive support in one building that disrupts disadvantage. Frontyard aims to support young people holistically to meet their physical, emotional, and social needs with the end goal a pathway out of homelessness. This role sits within Frontyard’s Accommodation Program. The program is a longer-term therapeutic housing option for young people that universal homelessness services have not been able to assist in breaking the cycle of homelessness they are experiencing. The program works from a healing oriented, strengths-based framework and focuses on working with young people to reach their goals and exit the homelessness service system.

About the role

The Accommodation Support Worker, Active Night Shift, provides structured support to young people over night maintaining a safe home environment. The Accommodation Support Worker is responsible for assisting the general day to day running of the accommodation and maintaining a safe, positive and welcoming environment.

The role works a rotating fortnightly roster with an additional 6-hour monthly team meeting that occurs during business hours. Active night shift hours are 11pm to 8am, with seven shifts a fortnight.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Respond appropriately to young people presenting with difficult and challenging behaviours; managing crises and incidents.
  • Conduct risk assessments and create innovative and proactive responses to risks identified.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development or social work or related qualification or extensive community sector experience.
  • Understanding or experience working with young people experiencing homelessness, including knowledge of trauma informed or healing oriented approaches.
  • Strong ability to actively and assertively engage young people with complex needs, particularly in an accommodation environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills encompassing interpersonal, verbal and written, and negotiation skills.
