The Role

The MPA Telehealth Nurse position is a new role, which will develop the new telehealth service and take primary responsibility for the operational delivery of the MPA national telehealth nurse case management service for people affected by melanoma.

Many patients when they are first diagnosed with melanoma contact Melanoma Patients Australia for information and support. The national telehealth nurse case management service will provide a new and higher-level support service for patients and their families. The role may include some regional and interstate travel.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Develop the new Telehealth service and take primary responsibility for the operational delivery of the MPA national Telehealth nurse case management service
  • Supporting patient empowerment through education and information provision
  • Supporting patients to proactively manage their melanoma
  • Assisting patients to navigate through the healthcare system and to access relevant services.
  • Supporting continuity of patient care with patients and families following hospital admission, discharge, and accident and/or emergency visits
  • Assisting patients and their families access existing services within the community
  • Connecting patients with opportunities to participate in medical research and patient feedback initiatives
  • Participating in data collection, health outcomes reporting, program evaluation and improvement

Please note: the primary role is to support patients, provide education and referrals with existing medical and psychosocial services. Where there are questions about treatment, the nurse can support the patient by developing a prompt list of questions to take back to their treating clinician. It is important to note that the nurse in this role must not give medical treatment advice and does not involve clinical counselling.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Nursing Degree
  • Registration with AHPRA
  • 4 years minimum experience in a clinical setting with experience in oncology disciplines
  • Demonstrated experience of working with people with a life-threatening illness (including melanoma)
