Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance

Who we are:

The Equity Foundation is the professional development arm of MEAA Equity, the union for Australian and New Zealand performers. MEAA Equity is more than 75 years old and has over 6,000 members.

As Australia’s leading provider of events tailored to the unique needs of performers, the Equity Foundations hosts more than 100 masterclasses, workshops, in conversations and film screenings annually. The Equity Foundation also facilitates an annual awards program to honour the work of Equity members.

The Foundation relies solely on the support from grants, corporate sponsorships, bequests and individual contributions to maintain our programs and create new ones.

Our mission is to assist, educate and inspire performers.

Screen Diversity Showcase

The Diversity Showcase is designed to provide opportunities for underrepresented diverse writers, directors and performers across the country. The inaugural program was held in Sydney in 2017 and showcased the talents of writers, directors and performers from diverse backgrounds. Diverse performers, writers and directors collaborated for a one week period in person, culminating in a one day performance showcasing their best work to the broader film and television industry.

The Diversity Showcase has the capacity to develop career paths not currently accessible for performers, directors and writers from diverse backgrounds. Given the opportunity to showcase their talents in a public forum and to be nurtured by others in the industry through ongoing mentoring opportunities will give each participant significant experience in the industry. It also has the ability to introduce a pipeline of talent into the industry to ensure that diverse stories and faces are seen on our screens to keep a connected and relevant viewer base.
