Be part of Change! An exciting opportunity exists to improve the lives of older people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) and non-English speaking (NES) backgrounds.

We are looking for an experienced advocate to work with older people, their family and carers from CALD and NES background who live in Western Sydney region.

The position is part time or full time (15 to 38 Hours) per week, based at MDAA’s Granville office.

The position is available until December 2022 with salary is based on SCHADS Award Level 4 and depending on experience.

You will also benefit from ongoing support, training and flexible working conditions; and salary sacrifice after qualifying period.

Selection criteria:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to make complex information clear and easy to understand.
  • A strong commitment to social justice principles
  • Possess a high level of understanding of the My Aged Care, NDIS and hospital discharge system.
  • Demonstrated advocacy skills and experience in working with older people from CALD and NES backgrounds
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity towards older people, their families and carers from CALD and NES backgrounds who may experience abuse or exploitation.
  • Demonstrated strength base approach and strong case management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in community development and networking.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make independent decision.
  • Ability to identify systemic issues in aged care system.
  • Adaptability in communicating with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, who need support to navigate my aged care system and other relevant information.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, or similar experience in aged care or disability sectors
  • Must provide probity checks as per government requirements prior to commencement and have no serious offences that may affect working with vulnerable people.
  • Second language is desirable
