The Program Manager, Unaccompanied Minors, oversees the out of home care services to unaccompanied minors who are in the guardianship of the Minister for Home Affairs. The program provides case management, supporting community link placements as well as therapeutic care within a residential setting.

This position is an extremely interesting one, suitable for a leader who is client-centric with a strong skillset in the provision of trauma informed care. We’re looking for someone who will lead from the front and prioritises practice development, nurturing and developing your teams.

A key focus of the role will be continual improvement and finding the ‘third way’. We are looking for you to have exceptional financial analysis skills and contractual knowledge. We operate in a fast paced environment and you’ll need to be responsive and timely in the support you provide internally and to our stakeholders.

What you can expect to do:

  • Lead and mentor a team of Case Managers and Residential Youth Support Workers in the delivery of high quality, consistent and culturally appropriate out of home care support to all clients. Create opportunities to improve, reflect, share and implement best practice and innovative approaches that allow clients to thrive;
  • Lead on  quality assurance activities; monitoring KPI’s, completion of departmental and internal reports, responding to identified WHS issues within residential properties;
  • Ensure integrity of client related documentation and data entry procedures so that information is up to date in Multicultural Australia’s client case management system, CS Net and data about our work is accurately transferred to the department;
  • Ensure that referrals and exits are completed in a timely manner and that clients have been referred to necessary agencies for support post exit if required;
  • Develop and manage appropriate service delivery systems and procedures that comply with the requirements of the UHM and UAM (SRSS) programs and enable a high quality service to be delivered within allocated budgets;

About you

  • Possession of tertiary qualifications in the field of social work, psychology, human services or occupational therapy. Relevant overseas qualifications may be recognized;
  • Minimum of two years experience in the management and implementation of out of home care services within a cross-cultural environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of child protection frameworks and legislative requirements in a multicultural context;
  • Proven experience in providing leadership, supervision and support to a team of staff, including the demonstrated ability to provide professional support for a multi-disciplinary team of workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
  • Outstanding verbal and written english language communication and cross-cultural communication skills and an excellent understanding and knowledge of issues in relation to the support of asylum seekers and refugees, as well as of current practice and policy issues;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in complying with funding requirements and delivering reports of a high standard, including high level written and oral communication skills;
  • Highly developed skills in meeting deadlines with competing priorities, problem solving, contract compliance and managing a budget.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills in relation to both intra-organisational relationships (i.e. between program areas) and inter-organisational relationships (i.e. between collaborating organisations and agencies), including the ability to negotiate for outcomes that are beneficial to clients and to organisational development;
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel;
  • Possession of, or willingness and eligibility to obtain, a Blue Card (Working with Children Suitability Card in accordance with the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian Act 2000) and Police Clearance Check; and
  • Current Queensland drivers license.
