MCWA has been providing services to the ageing Macedonian community since the early 1980s. MCWA is a Commonwealth Home Support Program, Home And Community Care for Younger People, Home Care Packages provider. The not for profit organisation is governed by a Board of Directors. The organisation operates at a state level and the head office is located in Maribyrnong. Since 2008, MCWA has been providing services to other diverse communities, and is continuing to grow its ability to address the needs of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities through in home and social support.

These positions have a direct responsibilities for the efficient implementation of the organisations programs for the ageing multicultural community using a wellness and reablement, capacity building approach. The positions are also responsible for ensuring the provision of quality services and ensuring a safe environment for clients, staff and volunteers.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Client Centred Approach
  • First aid certificate (Level 2)
  • Certificate III in Community Services (Aged Care Work) or equivalent
  • Experience in working with the frail aged, and people with a disability is desirable
  • Good communication skills
  • Well developed problem solving and decision making skills
  • Interpersonal and team work skills
  • Ability to respond sensitively to the needs of client group and their families
  • Understand and respect the needs for confidentiality in dealing with participants and their families
  • A current Drivers License
  • Understanding of Duty of Care
  • Speaking and/or understanding Macedonian language would be an advantage

Home Help

  • Laundry
  • Vacuuming
  • Meal Preparation
  • Cleaning
  • Ironing
  • Escorting clients to appointments
  • Shopping

Personal Care

  • Showering/bathing
  • Dressing
  • Toileting
  • Grooming

Respite

  • Companionship (a variety of activities)

Overnight care

  • Two wake up interruptions included in the overnight care allowance

Physical Requirements of the Support Worker Position

  • While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms as well as stoop and kneel.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5kg.
  • Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range.
  • Fine hand manipulation (for keyboarding – case noting purposes).
