The Opportunity at MCRI:

We are seeking two experienced and motivated Senior Study Coordinators to join the Clinical Trial Unit within the Neuro-oncology team at MCRI. In this role you will ensure the highest standard of care is delivered to all patients involved in clinical trials and, where relevant, their families, in partnership with all members of the multidisciplinary and research teams.

The Senior Study Coordinator will liaise with supporting departments to work within agreed terms of clinical studies within the Royal Children’s Hospital and MCRI. You will seek areas for improvement within the Clinical Trials Unit and act to develop procedures or guidelines as well as seeking to develop the skills of their peers. To be successful in this role you will maintain ethics and research governance as well as act as resource for guidance for staff within the Clinical Trials Unit.

The Principal Investigator/Unit Head is responsible for delegating authority to suitably qualified staff. Within this authority, the Senior Study Coordinator will perform the role using the required qualifications and experience, within the Children’s Cancer Centre. You will manage and oversee individual clinical trials to ensure their effective operation. The CCC has four (4) tumour streams; liquid, bone marrow transplant, solid and brain malignancies. This position will be responsible for Early Phase clinical trials, which can include patients across all tumour steams.

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Participates and seeks out training and education to improve knowledge, follows guidelines and uses evidence-based practice
  • Making professional decisions related to clinical trial management on a daily basis for own trial portfolio and those trials within the clinical trials unit
  • Provides professional advice relating to the conduct of clinical research
  • In conjunction with medical staff & Nursing staff, analysing and assessing each patient’s condition according to the trial protocol and determine appropriate action to ensure the patient’s future care and participation in the study
  • Conducts ethical research at the highest level of integrity and in line with the Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research and MCRI policies

About You:

  • Degree/Honours/Masters qualification in Science or related discipline
  • Appropriate level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training or professional accreditation
  • Experience in participating in the planning and coordination of projects
  • Experience in data and database management & data collection
