The Opportunity at MCRI:

We are seeking an analytical and passionate Research Assistant to support the bioinformatics activities of the Heart Development and Heart Regeneration groups at MCRI.

In this role you be involved in setting up, maintaining, and updating bioinformatics pipelines for the use of the Group members and collaborators under the guidance of the Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics group. You will also focus on performing analysis pertaining to genomics, transcriptomics (bulk and single-cells), proteomics datasets, establish custom-pipelines for data mining and multi-omics integration and dedicated online resources for the laboratory to assist Group members.

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for working in the research sector with the desire to work in bioinformatics. You will possess exceptional communication skills and be confident in communicating bioinformatics concepts and results to biologists and other stakeholders. This role will be suited to someone with a background in bioinformatics, computer or data science or engineering. Your Responsibilities will include

  • Managing the laboratory -omics datasets
  • Generates, sets up and maintains new or existing bioinformatics pipelines and resources for the use of the Group members
  • Liaises with IT and other Bioinformatics groups regarding infrastructure requirements
  • Provides assistance in analysing data for Group members and collaborators and presents at conferences
  • Participates and engages in the Heart Development, Heart Regeneration and Transcriptomics & Bioinformatics Group activities (eg: laboratory meetings, scientific retreats, laboratory duties)

About You:

  • Degree/Honours/Masters qualification in Bioinformatics, or related discipline
  • Experience in analysing, integrating and visualising next-generation sequencing datasets, in particular RNA-sequencing (bulk and single cell, ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq)
  • Proficiency in R, Python, High Performance Computing, generation of web resources and data visualisation
  • Excellent time management, organisational and analytical problem-solving skills
