The Opportunity

We are looking for a project assistant to join the Brain and Mind group in our Clinical Sciences theme.

Specifically, we are seeking a Project Assistant to join the dynamic Gender Research team at the Royal Children’s Hospital Gender Service (RCHGS) (https://www.mcri.edu.au/research/projects/gender-research). The RCHGS provides care to trans and gender diverse youth – including psychological and hormonal treatments - and is one of the largest multidisciplinary clinics of  its kind in the world. However, there is currently a lack of research data to inform clinical practice in this emerging field.

As our project assistant you will be working on the Trans20 longitudinal cohort study. This study is designed to describe the biopsychosocial outcomes for young transgender individuals receiving psychosocial support and hormonal interventions. Data collection for Trans20 commenced in 2017 and we anticipate having enrolled around 600 patients by early 2020.

As our part-time Project Assistant you will be required to undertake data collection, collation, recording and management.

The role requires a team member who is focused and has great attention to detail. This role will see you work on a variety of tasks with different sources, as data collection is collated from both web-based and paper-based surveys.

You must have outstanding communication skills and a proven ability to build positive relationships as you will be required to liaise with clinical staff, participants and a variety of stakeholders.

Your coordination, support and service excellence will ensure the project team can deliver on project priorities and can continue their work in the Trans20 longitudinal cohort study.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Recruitment and scheduling surveys
  • Data collection via a number of methods including online surveys, pen-paper, telephone interviews
  • Follow-up surveys that have not been completed by email and telephone call
  • Undertake consent procedures
  • Generate summary reports of patient data for clinical use
  • Database management
  • Liaise and maintain positive relationships with study participants and clinical staff
  • Ensure quality of data collection and maintenance of data within the administrative databases

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following attributes:

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification (preferably in a health, social or behavioral sciences field)
  • Experience and confidence in working with members of the general public
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly motivated, hard-working and reliable, with high level of initiative
  • Proven record of strong organisation and time-management skills, with capacity to prioritise tasks and work to targets
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Demonstrated strong computing skills using Microsoft Office Suite
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy
  • Working with Children Check & National Police Clearance (if appointed) in compliance with the Victorian Government's Child Safety Standards
  • Ability to commit for 12 month period

Desirable:

  • Experience in quantitative methodology and data collection
  • Experience using databases
  • Interest or experience in transgender health
  • Flexibility to undertake some out-of-hours work as required

On Offer:

  • 12 month contract
  • Part time 0.6 FTE 3 days per week
  • Salary Range $52,008 - $ 56,438 pa + super + salary packaging
