The Opportunity

We are looking for a candidate who is ready to take the next step in their career as our Education Project Officer to join the Genomics in Society team.

The Genomics in Society overarching research aim is to promote understanding of genetics and genomics, and inform evidence-based practice, among families, health professionals and the community.

A key part of your role will see you working with the multidisciplinary Acute Care Genomics project team to implement a national rapid genomic diagnosis program for critically ill children. You will educate the acute care clinical workforce by developing and facilitating a series of tailored genomic education initiatives delivered online and/or face-to-face.

This is an opportunity to work with a supportive and innovative team of experienced individuals who have an international reputation in research, development, implementation and evaluation of genetic and genomic education.

As this role will see you creating and promoting content to educate a diverse audience it is essential you have excellent communication and writing skills.

You will be liaising with a variety of stakeholders such as academics, medical professionals and administrators; therefore you have a proven ability to build engagement and foster relationships to ensure key objectives are met.To be successful in this role you will have previous experience as a learning or instructional designer in the research space and familiar with the complexities of teaching genetics and genomics. Ideally you will have a science degree or education experience in a relevant setting.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Work with stakeholders to identify learning objectives and curricula that align with outcomes using a program logic approach
  • Conduct opportunity analyses to identify existing educational materials that may be suitable or adaptable
  • Apply contemporary learning design methodology and practices to develop high-quality, progressive educational content and activities
  • Closely interact with subject matter experts, external consultants and the program team to develop educational content
  • Work with the Acute Care Genomics and related teams to ensure consistency with related genomic education projects and delivery of resources to time, budget and stakeholder (internal and external) satisfaction
  • Participate in relevant activities of the Genomics in Society group and related initiatives

You Demonstrate:

Essential

  • Tertiary or postgraduate qualification in education, educational technologies, genetics and/or medical education, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Experience in learning design, curriculum design and developing online content, including proficiency in representing complex ideas and information simply in an audience-appropriate way
  • Experience in working collaboratively and autonomously to develop and coordinate educational programs, preferably in a continuing professional development environment
  • Experience utilising internal and external content expertise
  • Understanding of, or experience with, medical and/or biosciences education, including scientific writing skills
  • Ability to build good working relationships, with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Organisation, time management and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines
  • Initiative and independent judgement when faced with new contexts, working with others to identify barriers and opportunities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and design programs, e.g., Articulate 360

Desirable

  • Experience with new approaches for deep learning, particularly in online learning environments
  • Familiarity with bodies involved in medical education and training
  • Experience working within complex initiatives involving multiple partners
  • Experience with genomics (clinical or laboratory) and/or working with health-related organisations, such as medical colleges
  • Demonstrated ability in creating and managing courses using Learning Management Systems
  • Well-developed project management, production and documentation skills
  • Experience conducting or applying needs analyses and evaluation of educational programs
  • An interest in medical research, public health and/or genomic medicine, preferably demonstrated through choice of subjects, thesis topics and/or work experience

On Offer:

  • 2 year max term contract
  • Part-time position, 0.4–0.6 EFT dependent on candidate
  • Salary Range $75,419- 94,695 pro rata pa + super + salary packaging
