The Opportunity

We are committed to the linking and analysis of large datasets to accelerate research outputs and provide the evidence base to improve clinical care. Our research is increasingly data-rich, with the volume, variety and velocity of data being generated requiring structured data governance and sophisticated analytics to ensure maximise translational impact and data sharing.

Under the guidance of the Research Data Manager, you will be responsible for sourcing and implementing enterprise level solutions to the data complexities of research data, especially high dimensional omic data sets, including training in these system for staff. The role will also involve working on a variety of other projects to help ensure the alignment of data related activities with the MCRI data strategy.

You will bring your expertise, in the analysis of biological research data (bioinformatics), data management, storage, integration and visualization, accompanied by your interest in enabling research science.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and deliver systems to allow biologists to manage, analyse and visualise research data
  • Collaborate in the development of institutional systems for the standardisation of data
  • Lead internal and external workshops with stakeholders to enable the introduction of effective data systems
  • Present at internal and external forums
  • Contribute to tender and grant applications

You Demonstrate:

  • Degree qualified in relevant field e.g. Biological Data Science, Bioinformatics
  • Analysis of high dimensional data, especially transcriptomics
  • Development of workflows/pipelines/scripts for data analysis
  • Design and development of relation databases such as MySQL
  • Scripting/coding e.g. Python, R, Stata

Desirable experience includes:

  • Galaxy server
  • Single cell transcriptomics
  • Image analysis and the marshalling of image files
  • Data Visualization platforms such as Tableau
  • Understanding of data classification with controlled vocabularies/ontologies
  • Knowledge of machine learning and prediction/classification systems for complex data

  • Salary $86,000 - $102,000 PA + super + salary packaging benefits e.g. entertainment & everyday essentials
