The Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides leadership, support, and oversight of the ministries within McAuley Ministries Limited (MML) so that:

  • MML ministries are living expressions of the Sisters of Mercy mission
  • The people within MML feel a sense of belonging within the broader Mercy community
  • The organisation is flexible and adaptable in responding to the needs of a changing Institute and world
  • All MML ministries offer professional, quality services
  • MML site-based ministries operate effectively, are well managed and accountable to MML
  • MML fosters a culture of safeguarding and care for children and vulnerable persons

The Organisation

McAuley Ministries Limited provides governance for 57 small ministries of Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of Australia and Papua New Guinea. 80 sisters and staff provide a wide range of professional services including:

  • Ministering as educators, theologians, scripture scholars, liturgists, writers and poets, researchers, musicians, artists, bioethicists, sociometrists, socio-dramatists, environmentalists and ecologists, lawyers and advocates for justice
  • Providing counselling, psychological therapy, pastoral supervision, mediation, retreats, and spiritual direction
  • Offering hospitality in retreat and spirituality centres, teaching music, speech, and drama.

All successful applicants will be required to hold a current Working with Children Check. Some positions will also require a Police clearance.

The role is currently based in Sydney, but the location of the role is open to negotiation.

Required Skills include

  • A commitment to the Sisters of Mercy Mission
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a senior leadership role
  • Substantial experience in a mission focussed organisation/service
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that are creative, flexible, and sensitive to the culture and mission in demanding roles
  • Proven capacity to facilitate effective change
